NIONGOZE FELLOWSHIP
Class of 2024
The fellowship commenced with the first exciting colloquium that took place in the mountainous Lushoto district in Tanga. Having nine fellows from eight universities in the country, the colloquium was a success of its kind with a lot to digest.
Fellows had opportunities to take part in different occasions and programs that for sure brought them together. The programs are professionally prepared to help one discover the hidden true leadership potential, starting from self-determination, communication, collaboration, participation to professional leadership skills.
FIRST COLLOQUIUM
The first colloquium was held in Lushoto district in Tanga, covering personal leadership training.
SECOND COLLOQUIUM
The second colloquium will be held online, covering leadership training at a group level.
THIRD COLLOQUIUM
The third colloquium will be covering community leadership training.

MEET THE FELLOWS
Shadya is a passionate and driven student at the University of Dar es Salaam, currently pursuing a degree in Political Science and Public Administration as she enters her third year of studies. With a deep commitment to leadership and student representation, Shadya holds the role of USRC Special Seat Representative for the third year, as well as serving as the Minister for External Affairs and Students Associations at the Dar es Salaam University Students Organization (DARUSO).
In her role, Shadya actively represents the concerns and challenges faced by her fellow students, working tirelessly to ensure their voices are heard. She is dedicated to raising awareness on various matters affecting students, and she plays a key role in organizing and coordinating initiatives that build connections between the University of Dar es Salaam and other universities, associations, and organizations. Notably, under her leadership, DARUSO has successfully established partnerships with Makerere University in Uganda and Mzumbe University in Tanzania, fostering greater collaboration and exchange of ideas.
Shadya's commitment to social impact extends beyond her university responsibilities. She completed her practical training at C-Sema, a non-governmental organization that promotes and protects children's rights through the National Child Helpline. At C-Sema, Shadya worked as a counselor, offering guidance, awareness, and advice on child rights and child abuse, while also helping victims navigate the process of dealing with abuse. This role allowed her to develop her advocacy skills, particularly in areas related to children's welfare and protection.
In addition to her practical experience, Shadya has actively participated in several training programs and mentorship sessions aimed at honing her leadership abilities. She attended the DARUSO LEGENDS retreat at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School, where she gained essential knowledge on becoming a logical, resilient, and tough-minded leader. This experience equipped her with the skills to think critically and make informed decisions in her leadership roles.
Furthermore, Shadya took part in the Nikonekt workshop, hosted by Elimika Wikiendi, which provided valuable insights into financial education, personal branding, entrepreneurship, and employability.
This workshop empowered Shadya with the knowledge and tools necessary to help herself and her peers develop both professionally and personally.
Shadya’s dedication to advocacy, student leadership, and community service exemplifies her commitment to making a positive impact both within the university and beyond. Her leadership journey continues to inspire and empower others, as she strives to create lasting connections and opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Honolina is a dynamic leader with a deep passion for using technology to drive social change and empower communities. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), her academic journey reflects her commitment to bridging the gap between technology and societal needs.In her leadership roles, Honolina serves as the Chairperson of her department and the Chairperson of the Institute of Engineering student chapter at DIT. She is also an influential political leader, serving as the Chairperson of the Youth Wing at DIT, where she leads efforts to inspire and engage young people in social and political discourse.

As the Club Coordinator for the UDOM Cybersecurity Club, Elina plays an active role in helping students learn more about cybersecurity and digital safety. In addition to her role at UDOM, Elina serves as a Youth Advisor on the board of Unite the World with Africa Foundation, contributing to supporting Unite scholars.

Gloria’s commitment to community service shines through her volunteer work with the Changemaker Organization in 2020/2021, where she has supported orphanages through fundraising initiatives and taught essential communication skills to young learners. I am dedicated to continuous growth and learning as a medical student.
Levina is a medical student at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College pursuing a bachelor’s degree in medicine currently serves as the national general secretary of the Tanzania Medical Students Association overseeing administrative operations, coordinating communication between the executive board, standing committees, and chapter chairpersons hence ensuring effective implementation of TAMSA. Beatrice is a Graduate Electrical Engineer currently pursuing a MSc in Power Systems and High Voltages at the University of Dar es Salaam. She is, among other things, a writer and a TEDx speaker. She is among the contributors behind the Build Africa newsletter—a premier platform for updates on the startup ecosystem in Tanzania. Beatrice is passionate about sustainable development goals focusing on advocacy for education, women and girls’ inclusion, and sustainable energy use. She has a keen interest in the energy sector, particularly in electric power and renewable energy systems.
Beatrice is currently a representative for her class and sitting in the school board of her former school. She believes in the power of continuous learning and strives to make a positive impact in her community. She is determined to leverage her leadership and communication skills to responsibly represent those she serves.
Her leadership journey spans from primary and secondary schools to her role as a leader of electrical engineering students during her undergraduate studies, where she excelled in balancing academic and leadership responsibilities making her an exemplary female leader.

Despite being in medical school, Melody has actively participated in various health initiatives across the Dar es Salaam region, including health awareness campaigns on malaria and polio, community tree planting, and medical camps. Her practical experience includes physical practices at several hospitals including Mwananyamala, Temeke, Amana, Tumbi, and Kairuki Hospitals.
Melody’s leadership capabilities have been recognized through various roles, including her appointment as the Assistant Chairperson of the CCM at Kairuki University Students Association (KUSA) in 2023. And as Minister of Sports, Entertainment, and Culture for KUSA in 2023. She also served as the Event Planner for the Rotaract Club of Kairuki. Her dedication to public service is further demonstrated through her engagement in public speaking and volunteering in medical outreach programs.

Anisa is a youth who lives at Tanzania, Dar es Salaam and she is currently a university student studying at Dkt. Salim Ahmed Salim Center of Foreign Relations pursuing her bachelor's degree of international relations and diplomacy. She is also a very passionate leader who participates in various leadership roles, through this passion she has been able to achieve her greatest accomplishment which is to start an organization called Umoja Thrive Foundation which deals with providing advocacy and conducting charities to different groups in need by coming up with a collaborative team that has helped her to ensure that these duties are effectively handled.
Her strong desire to help others and make a positive impact in their communities is what motivated her to start this organization. Through this organization, a lot of young individuals, especially orphans have been able to get access to different necessities including food and clothes. Anisa is currently a vice president of the student government at Dkt. Salim Ahmed Salim Center of Foreign Relations has been able to lead diversity and inclusion by implementing initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the university, by creating a welcome for all the members of the university community.
She loves to read books in her free time but also, but she is also a member of the United Nations chapter and has volunteered in several activities in the community including cleaning activities which has led to maintaining the city's cleanliness. Furthermore, she has good social skills to enable individuals to effectively interact with others, build relationships, and navigate social situations successfully. These skills help individuals form connections, resolve conflicts, and work cooperatively with others, leading to better interpersonal relationships and overall well-being.
Anisa is looking forward to reaching a massive number of children and women who are going through different challenges but also as a leader, she is looking forward to working with various international organizations helping them to achieve global goals that contribute to a better world. My name is Madoline Okeyo. I am in my third year of medical school at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College, KCMUCo located in the Kilimanjaro region. I live in Dar es Salaam where I did my primary school education. I did my O-level education at Maria de Mattias Secondary School in Dodoma and my A-level education at St Marys’ Mazinde Juu Secondary School in Tanga, Lushoto.
I would describe my academic experience as entirely God’s grace and favor. For as long I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a Doctor. However, the older I get the more I realise I not only want to cure people but also prevent diseases hence, promoting healthier communities. This vision has been leading me to incredible platforms and I believe sharpening my leadership skills will take me to even further places and serve larger populations.

I live in Dar es Salaam where I did my primary school education. I did my O-level education at Maria de Mattias Secondary School in Dodoma and my A-level education at St Marys’ Mazinde Juu Secondary School in Tanga, Lushoto.
I would describe my academic experience as entirely God’s grace and favor. For as long I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a Doctor. However, the older I get the more I realise I not only want to cure people but also prevent diseases hence, promoting healthier communities. This vision has been leading me to incredible platforms and I believe sharpening my leadership skills will take me to even further places and serve larger populations.
Asha is a student pursuing her bachelor's degree in Tourism management at the College of African Wildlife Management (Mweka), Kilimanjaro region. She is passionate about Wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism. her greatest accomplishment is participating in different that gave her a chance to learn more on conservation practices. She contributed to discussions, networking, and sharing insights on sustainable tourism. She also advocates for youth involvement in environmental conservation and eco-tourism practices. As a vice president of the student organization, she actively participated in students' welfare and conservation practices.
She has successfully organized several student-led conservation projects, including clean-up campaigns and awareness workshops. These initiatives have increased student participation in environmental activities and strengthened our college's commitment to wildlife conservation.
Additionally, she facilitated collaborations between students and external organizations to provide more volunteering and learning opportunities in the tourism and conservation sectors. She loves painting, traveling, networking, photography, and nature visits. She participates in the tourism and wildlife conservation club at her college. She also volunteers at a local conservation organization to help in organizing awareness campaigns and clean-up drives at national parks.
As a current vice president at Mweka, she engages students in environmental initiatives and foster discussions on wildlife strategies. She uses her leadership skills to inspire others to participate in leadership and encourage peers to advocate for Tanzania tourism resources. Lastly,her goal is to contribute significantly in the protection of Tanzania's wildlife ecosystem, and she will achieve these goals by completing my studies in Tourism Management, gaining practical experience through internships and volunteer work, and pursuing further education, such as a master's degree in sustainable tourism. Additionally, she will continue building networks with professionals in the field and engaging in hands-on conservation projects.
